Welcome

Welcome to the Department of Defense (DoD) Military Health System (MHS) Patient Safety Program (PSP) Web site. The DoD PSP is a comprehensive program with the goal of establishing a culture of patient safety and quality within the Military Health System (MHS). We encourage a systems approach to creating a safer patient environment; engaging MHS leadership; promoting collaboration across all three Services; and fostering trust, transparency, teamwork and communication.

Our Mission

The DoD PSP is leading the MHS to a culture of safety by providing oversight and coordination of enterprise-wide programs that promote patient safety.

Our mission is to "provide products, services, and training to help ensure the safe delivery of health care to MHS beneficiaries." We implement effective actions, programs and initiatives throughout MHS to improve patient safety and overall health care quality. We target health care leadership, health care professionals, and beneficiaries and outline their roles in patient safety practices.

To enact the mission, we apply the following guiding principles:

  • A systems approach across the Services
  • Innovation and creativity
  • Fostering a culture of trust and transparency
  • Communication, coordination and teamwork
  • Embracing national initiatives deemed beneficial to the MHS
